4 Things You Shouldn’t Drain Down Your Toilet

A black chalkboard with a message on it.

A black chalkboard with a message on it.Giving your clogged drains a professional cleaning is nothing short of a confession. If you’re the only adult who uses the bathroom, it reveals all about your careless drainage habits. Your plumber might be able to identify the items clogging your drains, and you’d be surprised to recall all the things you’ve dumped in your toilet bowls.

The fatberg doesn’t form overnight; it’s a continuous process of disposing of the WRONG things down your drain.

Find a hiding spot and cover your face because we’ll reveal all the naughty secrets in your toilet drains.

Condoms

We know that sometimes you don’t have the luxury of time to care about safe ways of disposing of condoms. This usually happens when you’re drunk, or the baby wakes up before you get a quickie, or you sleep with a stranger from the bar who doesn’t care (or know) about your toilet hygiene.

Regardless of the reason, disposing of condoms in the toilet is unsafe for the drains. The material doesn’t disintegrate in the water and may add to the buildup, eventually choking the pipe. However, if you must, it’s better to use a trackless toilet flush sheet before pulling the plug on the drain because it drains better.

Tampons

Keep a bin inside your bathrooms when you’re on your period. Disposing of used tampons in the toilet drain will accumulate into the fatberg that will ultimately reveal itself! You may not be proud of being careless and forgetful, but it’s embarrassing when a plumber points it out. Change before your secrets are out.

Floss

You should take your dentist’s advice seriously and floss multiple times daily. But dumping used floss in the toilet is not a great habit. It may look harmless because it’s a fine string, but it’s made of synthetic material that doesn’t decompose in the drains. Dropping it in the loo and not the bin can cause plumbing troubles in the future.

Hair

This is a close second to floss because it’s finer than that and tends to decompose eventually. However, the decomposition process is much slower than it is in the case of soft tissues. Since hair is made of keratin—a protein—it disintegrates by proteolysis, which depends on several environmental factors. Plus, when you dump fallen hair, you usually clump it together in a big bunch that’s harder to flush. The garbage is the right place for dumping hair, not the toilet.

But even if you haven’t been disposing of these things in the toilet, it can still cause drainage issues. Some forms of feces are harder to flush through, and more so if the drainpipes are already clogged.

Always Use Trackless Toilet Flush Sheets

If you’re a homeowner, you need this in your toilet. Trackless flush sheets are water-soluble and make draining feces and other waste easier. You don’t need to flush multiple times to ensure the waste has flushed or use the toilet brush whenever you see unsightly tracks on the bowl. Simply using one sheet before use will get the job done. And they’re eco-friendly, too!

Toilet Cleaning Protocol: The 4-Step Guide

You can take on an extra load of laundry that needs folding or a massive pile of dirty dishes that need to be washed, but not dirty toilets.

Cleaning toilets is at the top of the list of things homeowners hate to do. Find us one person who likes to look straight into the toilet bowl and scrub off the tracks, and we’ll treat you to a year of no cleaning (just kidding.)

It’s worse when your toilet looks and smells disgusting. But you need to get in there and finish the job for Thanksgiving, at least. Let’s look at a quick four-step guide to cleaning your bathroom squeaky.

  1. Clear the Coast

Shampoos, conditioners, body washes, soaps, liquid detergents, and other bath products sit in the same spot daily. This forms water rings on the counter, making it unclean. On regular days, you may not have the time to give your counter a deep clean. But when a special occasion is upon you, you will make time to give your bathroom a particular treatment.

You must remove all the bottles from their place and clear the coast before you begin. That way, you can scrub and clean better without interruptions.

Remove the rugs and trash cans you’ve placed on the floors. If there are watermarks or stains underneath, they’ll also need cleaning.

  1. Dust and Sweep

Once you remove everything and there are no bumps in the way, begin dusting. Finishing dusting at the start is essential because the dust specks may make freshly mopped floors dirty later.

Reach into the farthest corners for cobwebs, dust the vents, and unscrew light bulbs to clean those too.

When you dust, you’ll find dust, grime, fallen hair, and even dead bugs on window ledges and overhead platforms. Not cleaning those compromises the overall hygiene of your toilets. That’s a step you can’t miss and must do first.

  1. Clean other Surfaces

Once that’s done, apply a cleaning solution on the floors, doorknobs, windows, shelves, baseboards, shower closets, and blinds.

Let it sit while you tend to the bathtub. The cleaning solution needs time to disintegrate and dissolve the dirt before you wash it off.

Start scrubbing the insides of your shower closet or bathtub walls. Use a soft sponge soaked in cleaner to dislodge grime and dirt. You might need a harder sponge to remove the buildup and treat the stains. Wash off with warm water and return to the floors.

Wash the floors and other surfaces and mop them as usual. Remember to wipe away excess water and scrub the tops of the drains, too. Open the windows or turn on the ventilation system to let fresh air in and dry up the place.

  1. Clean the Toilet Seat

This is the most challenging and demanding part of the toilet cleaning routine. You look at the toilet brush, and your insides start to turn. You may even feel sick at the thought of putting your hand inside the bowl and scrubbing it.

But it gets a lot easier if you have and use trackless toilet flush sheets. They’re much more sustainable than chemical cleaners that impact the environment because they’re non-toxic and water-soluble. All it takes is 22 minutes for them to decompose and flush out from the drains.

You must place one sheet in the bowl before using it and do your business as usual. Drain once (not multiple times), and your toilet will look and smell as fresh as new!

Why Does Your Toilet Stink and What to Do About It?

An Asian man pinching his nose because the toilet releases an unpleasant smell.

Warm lights, indoor plants by the mirror, and a fragrant candle with a flickering flame can upgrade your bathroom’s look. They instantly give your bathroom a luxury feel and take your experience up several notches! And if you’ve invested in renovating your bathroom, it creates the perfect ambiance for the mood you’re trying to set.

But if the toilet bowl is unclean or the drains are clogged, no fragrance can compensate for it. A stinky bathroom needs to be cleaned, not doused with fragrances. That will only overwhelm your olfactory senses and make the atmosphere even more unpleasant.

There can be many reasons why your bathroom stinks. Let’s look at those.

Sulfur Smell

It’s common for toilets to emit a sulfur smell when bacterial growth is present inside the drainpipes or the toilet bowl. You may not realize that it’s sulfur if you don’t recognize its smell, but if your toilet smells like rotten eggs, that’s what it is.

You might need to change your drainage tactics, and if the problem persists, call plumbers to clean your drains. It might be more than one pipe infested with bacterial growth and releasing that odd stench.

Disinfecting the drains will eliminate the odor, but you must ensure it doesn’t happen again. It occurs when the species haven’t been appropriately drained and flushed out of the pipes. Using trackless toilet flush sheets can make the waste flow through the pipes easier without clogging or getting stuck anywhere.

Sewage Smell

If you’ve always associated toilets with the smell of sewage, you’re normalizing a fault line that shouldn’t exist. If your drains are working correctly, it’s not normal for toilets to exude the sewer stench. The p-trap is responsible for keeping the sewer gases sealed underwater. But if there is insufficient water, the gases can escape and enter the house.

It can also happen if there’s an underground leak in the drain pipes. This can be a direct consequence of waste building up inside the pipes and causing pressure on the walls that eventually burst. You can reduce the chances of this by using trackless toilet flush sheets that disintegrate within 22 minutes and wash away all waste.

Use Trackless Toilet Flush Sheets

These sheets are made from a water-soluble material that can disintegrate within 22 minutes. When placed in the toilet bowl before use, it effectively flushes out the waste without leaving behind any tracks. It’s designed to wrap around any form of feces and freely flow through the drainpipes into the main drain. This minimizes the chances of clogs and bad smells while keeping your toilet squeaky clean and smelling fresh.

3 Unpleasant Toilet Sights and Smells You Hate

You may have a love-hate relationship with your toilet because of its many sights and smells. It’s hard to keep your toilet smelling and looking fresh, but not if you know the right tips and tricks to achieve that.

Trackless toilet flush sheets can make the job much more convenient. To give your toilet bowl a freshly washed look, place a sheet before using it and flush it immediately.

If your washroom cabinets don’t have a stash of these, you might encounter one of these unfortunate experiences.

Leftovers

We all love to feast on leftovers from Thanksgiving or the last dinner date. You’d be pleased to find those kinds of leftovers in your fridge. It is divine to take out your leftover salad or soup in a bowl and plop on your couch to enjoy it!

But other kinds of leftovers in bowls make you want to roll your eyes inward. That sight won’t make your heart do an excited flip but make your insides squirm in disgust.

Yes, you guessed it right.

You can blame feces floating in the bowl on careless people who lack basic hygiene, but it might not be their fault. Sometimes, your toilet fails to flush correctly, or choked drains cause backflow into the bowl.

It gets worse if it’s not you but a guest met by the disgusting view.

Stench

Imagine opening the door and smelling a waft of an unbearable stench. The rotten smell of clogged drains and unflushed waste can make every visit to the loo more unpleasant than the last one. You don’t want to go to a toilet that smells like sewage. You want your toilet to smell fresh before and after every use so that the next person in line doesn’t suffer.

No matter how often you wash your toilets, the stench can still linger because the problem is in the drainage, not the interiors. The cleaner the toilet bowl is, the better your toilet will smell. And the key to keeping it clean and fresh is to use our trackless toilet flush sheets.

Murky Waters

Some signs are apparent to pick, like tracks or species in the toilet bowl and the stench of clogged drains and sewage. Others are more discreet but still taint the overall atmosphere of the bathroom. Your drains may be working correctly, and there might not be any tracks on the sides of the toilet bowl. But sometimes, the water in the bowl may not be as straightforward as it should be. Murky water standing in the bowl is an eyesore you can’t avoid seeing if you’re using the toilet.

You want the water to be clear and clean at all times. It makes you feel cleaner when you use the toilet. Not to mention the horrible instances when the water splashes and comes in contact with your skin; those moments are terrible, regardless of how clean the water looks, but visualizing the dirtier-looking water can make your skin crawl.
